The magic's in the air in the Périgord noir. Walking in the forests, visiting castles and museums, going to the markets, reading a book on the bank of the Dordogne, all these will make you easily understand where all the legends of king Arthur & the knights of the round table came from. Every stone, every tree, every wrinkle in an old farmer's face carry in them 400,000 years of human history... and if you want just to rest, this is really the place to do it.
In a longchair beside the pool, looking at the river that flows beneath, kingfishers fly over the water in electric blue, and gray herrons on the low branches hanging over the water. Watching the wild swans going back and forth in the sunset is a great pacifier too. But not only history, leisure and great landscapes wait for you there.
The Périgord has other riches such as the truffle, fois-gras, walnut, great wines... You can find these products in markets (see our Markets section), to cook in your well equipped kitchen, or offer yourself the luxury of the many gourmet restaurants all over the area (see Restaurants page). And after a good meal... cultural events such as concerts, festivals for cinema, theatre, jazz music and what not, are everywhere in the region.
